Chastel sur Murat has 96 inhabitants; the village is built at the foot of a volcanic pinnacle. You will appreciate the Roman chapel Saint Antoine, which dates back to the 12th century and has some remarkable frescos. The chapel stands high on a basaltic peak. After a short walk you will reach the top at 1200 m altitude, from where you will get a beautiful view.

  Les tourbières. The peat bog is a natural environment that looks like a marsh. It is covered with plentiful and unusual vegetation. There are two protected sites to be discovered at Chastel: Lapsou and Brujaleine

La Tourbière de Brujaleine.(peat bog)
Leave your car at the car park at the foot of the Chapelle Saint Antoine. Follow the way marked path opposite towards the village of Brujaleine. This walk takes 2 hours, 160 m gradient

Alagnon-Pinatelle
It takes 4 hours, 22 km (orange run), 590 m gradient ;this is quite a strenuous route with numerous hills.
